We had a lovely group from Woodmen Valley Chapel come in March to visit our hospital at CURE Malawi. They helped around the hospital as well as participated in a home visit. It was so exciting having them visit us, especially since our new Executive Director, Mark Deysher, used to go to their church before he moved to Malawi!
Pictured above: Woodmen Valley Chapel CURE Malawi Team: Amber, Collin, Angie, Andy, Deb, Stacy, Kimberlee, Brett, and Blanca.
Deb Brown, team leader, has fun tossing a ball around with Emma and the rest of the kids.
Collin and Andy work on fixing an old walker.
Stacy, upper right, who is an Occupational Therapist in the U.S., observes Janet, a physiotherapist, left, who is helping Grace with hand exercises post surgery.
Brett, a theater technician, assists Dr. James during an operation. It was great to have medical professionals on the team!
The kids loved the balloon animals Andy and the other team members were making!
Deb and Brett laugh during a ride out to visit clubfoot patients Ishmael and Rahim.
The team listens while Ishmael and Rahim's dad, Levison, tells his story about his sons' clubfoot.
Levison holds his youngest son, Mussa, while he explains what has happened since he went to CURE. He has accepted Christ and is overjoyed to see the difference in his sons’ feet.
The team poses with Ishmael and Rahim and their sister Catherine.
The team prays for Levison and his family.
Back at the hospital, Brett reads a Bible story to the children while Funny translates.
Blanca prays for Hajira, who was crying after her surgery, helping her to calm down. Blanca is a nurse in the U.S.
Kimberlee helps paint Emma's nails: both her hands and feet.
The kids and the Woodman Valley Chapel team were having a blast shooting pom-poms with cup slingshots!
Mark Deysher, right, who is our new Executive Director, and his wife Mary Diane, left, were members at Woodmen Valley Chapel before they came to serve at CURE Malawi. It was so awesome that some members from their old church could come for a visit!
Amber and Emma pose on the team's last day.
Mark helps one of the kids with the monkey bars.
Angie and Emma were having way too much fun shooting pom-poms at the camera!
Kimberlee poses with Stanley, a little boy with osteogenesis imperfecta, or brittle bone disease.
Patrick, Stacy, and Shadreck. Unfortunately, the last day of the hospital was busy, and Stacy couldn't take a photo with more members of the Physiotherapy team.
Collin and Bernard pose with their balloon animals.
All in all, everyone had a blast during their short stint at the hospital, especially the kids! We were sad that their visit was so short, and we hope to see them in the future!
