Doctors from CURE Ethiopia leading a training session
The Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery Course, sponsored by the AO Alliance, was held at Black Lion Hospital in the capital city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The AO Alliance is a a developmental nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the care of the injured in low-and middle-income countries.
Nine instructors from three continents came to provide their expertise on a variety of topics involving pediatric orthopedics. Dr. Birhanu, along with the local faculty and CURE Ethiopia staff, helped facilitate. Forty-three residents completed the week long course and enjoyed a variety of learning experiences, including hands-on training via cadavers, small group discussions, and lectures!
“We’re not trying to cover everything—just a set of topics we think are important to study in more depth, more case-based small groups discussions. It’s working really well; we had a lot of interactions,” says Dr. Jim Harrison, AO Alliance's Africa Regional Director.
